SAVE² Project Kicks Off Successfully

A joint workshop between Offenburg University and its Moroccan partners, Cadi Ayyad University Marrakech, Ibn Zohr University Agadir and the Institut de Recherche en Energie Solaire et Energies Nouvelles (IRESEN) in Rabat, marked the start of the SAVE² project on 8 April 2019.

SAVE² stands for "Moroccan-German University Alliance for Sustainable Added Value Creation through Education and Intelligent Energy" and is part of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus, a program of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. It is financed over a period of three years.. The aim of the workshop was to explore opportunities for cooperation between the partners in solar energy, innovative building technology, hydrogen technologies and long-term storage, smart grids, energy management, electromobility and education, and to initiate concrete next steps together in these areas.

A noteworthy feature is the planned social dimension of the cooperation, which involves implementing technology demonstrators at Moroccan aid organizations and supporting their facilities with PV battery systems incorporating innovative energy management, among other things. This approach can be traced back to the student GREENLIGHT initiative at Hochschule Offenburg, which primarily supports the rural population of Morocco, as for example through solar systems installed in cooperation with Moroccan partners.

In addition, as part of the SAVE² workshop, a memorandum of understanding concerning joint activities in teaching and research was co-signed by representatives of Hochschule Offenburg and IRESEN.
