Both professors obtained their doctorate degrees from a German university and are fluent in German; presentations and conversations throughout the two-day program were conducted in German. The representatives of both universities quickly recognized that their profiles as well as lecture-period times matched very well and that hence, cooperation between Offenburg and TEI Serres would be highly attractive and practicable for both sides.
The interest in cooperation was first expressed in April 2015, during a municipal exchange of experiences between Achern and Serres. With the support of the German-Greek network, an expert group from Serres had visited the Ortenau district, including Offenburg University, and Serres mayor Aggelidis Petros and Reinhart Köstlin, then mayor of Achern, stated their mutual desire for a cooperation between the two institutions.
Now, the cornerstones have been laid; a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed shortly, from which will follow various possibilities of collaboration, majorly including the exchange of students and professors though the Erasmus+ initiative as well as joint research projects.
